If you’re considering joining a tennis club in Essex or simply curious about how much tennis costs, we’re here to help! At Wickford Lawn Tennis Club, we aim to make tennis accessible and affordable for everyone, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player. Here’s a breakdown of tennis club membership fees, lesson prices, and what you’ll get for your investment.
1. Getting Started as a Beginner
If you’re just starting, we can provide a tennis racket for you to use during your initial lessons. To begin, you’ll only need to consider the annual membership fee and any coaching rates if you want to sign up for lessons. For beginners, having access to a club racket is a great way to try out the sport without committing to buying equipment right away.
2. Membership Fees and Benefits
We offer several membership options to fit your schedule and needs:
Full Membership: £235 per year. Full members enjoy:
Free Court Access: Pre-book your court time at no extra cost.
Weekly Club Nights and Mornings: Join our Wednesday evening club nights and Sunday morning sessions, where players of all levels come together for friendly matches.
Club Tournaments: Gain entry into our in-house tournaments, a great way to challenge yourself and connect with other members.
League Representation: Represent Wickford Lawn Tennis Club in various local tennis leagues around Essex, including men’s, women’s, doubles, and mixed doubles leagues.
Part-Time Membership: £95 per year, ideal for those who prefer to play during off-peak hours, from 8 am to 3 pm on weekdays.
Junior Membership: Starting at £30, depending on age. We have options to support young players at every stage of their tennis journey.
3. Trying Out the Club
To help you decide if Wickford Lawn Tennis Club is the right fit, we offer a free trial lesson for kids. It’s a great way for young players to experience the club and see if they enjoy tennis. For adults, the first step is to book a private lesson. After that, if you’re happy with the club, you’re welcome to join as a member.
4. Lesson Costs
At Wickford Lawn Tennis Club, we offer affordable and high-quality coaching options for all ages and skill levels:
Private Lessons: £25 for a 45-minute session. These sessions provide personalized attention to enhance your technique, strategy, and overall performance. You can also share a lesson with a friend or family member at the same rate.
Kids Group Lessons: Organized in 12-week courses, each costing £80. These group sessions are an excellent way for children to learn the fundamentals of tennis while enjoying a fun and social environment.
5. Equipment Costs
Kids’ Rackets: A good junior racket costs around £80.
Adults’ Rackets: Expect to pay about £180 for a quality racket.
If you prefer not to purchase a racket right away, you’re welcome to use one of our club’s adult or junior rackets at no additional cost.
6. Maintenance Costs
Racket Restringing: £25 per restring. Keeping your racket in good shape helps with performance, especially as you play more frequently.
Tennis Balls: No need to worry about bringing your own! We provide balls during lessons and club events.
7. Match Fees and Tournaments
If you play in one of our club’s leagues, there’s a subs fee of £2.50 per game. While Wickford Lawn Tennis Club doesn’t host tournaments with players from other clubs, we do hold an in-house club tournament for our full members, which is free to enter.
8. Off-Peak Memberships
For those who prefer to play during quieter hours, we offer off-peak memberships. These allow you to play from 8 am to 3 pm on weekdays, which is ideal if you’re looking to enjoy tennis without participating in competitions.
9. Social Events and Club Activities
Being part of Wickford Lawn Tennis Club is about more than just tennis. Full members can join our Club Night on Wednesday evenings and Sunday Club Mornings, where players of all levels get together for friendly matches and socializing. We also host an annual Christmas party and summer BBQs, adding to the sense of community here at the club.
10. Building Friendships and Community
One of the biggest benefits of joining a local tennis club is the friendships you’ll build. At Wickford, you’ll meet people of all ages who share your passion for tennis and bring diverse perspectives and interests to the club. The connections you make here can last a lifetime and are just as rewarding as the game itself.
